INDIA, Independent States. Vijayanagar. Sadashivaraya, 1542-1568. Pagoda (Gold, 11 mm, 3.39 g). Vishnu and Lakshmi seated facing on a raised seat. Rev. Traces of the Devanagari legend: SRI PRA/TAPA SADASI/VARAYA. Mitchner, Karnataka & Andhra, 710. Struck slightly off center and with a light scrape on the obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.

Sadashivaraya was defeated at the Battle of Talikota in 1565 by the combined forces of the Muslim sultanates of the Deccan. This brought an end to the last major Hindu kingdom on the subcontinent.
